  • James See

    HEAD ENGINEER | STUDIO MANAGER

    James See is a Brisbane-based musician, engineer, producer and songwriter. James fronted an alt-rock band through the majority of the 2000s with mild successes. He has worked alongside world-renowned music producers Trinity, Martin Hansen, Arnthor Birgisson, Erik Lidbom, and MachoPsycho whilst writing and recording in Stockholm, Sweden. These years helped shape the way James writes, records, and produces music.

    Alongside his passions for recording, James has toured Australia as a stagehand, monitor engineer and playback systems tech for many Australian artists. James has worked with many artists and bands such as Thelma Plum, Andy Ward, Pola Rise (PL), Cub Sport, Safia, The Predators, David Meggarity (Tyrone and Lesley), Olivia James, John Wilsteed (The Go-Betweens/Halfway), Litters, Andy Martin, Jowic, Suicide Country Hour, Inovo, The Bluebottles.

  • Cody McWaters

    ENGINEER | PRODUCER | MIXER

    Cody McWaters is a producer, engineer, mixer, and musician based in Brisbane, Australia. Cody will take on the head engineer role, and has joined the growing list of accomplished engineers that love working at Airlock.

    Under the mentorship of ARIA award-winning producer, Doug Roberts (INXS, John Farnham, Boom Crash Opera), Cody spent his formative years gaining an insight into a range of production approaches and the importance of nurturing musical relationships that play a strong role in developing the sound of emerging artists.

    With a talent for understanding and developing artists’ sounds, Cody has established himself as a leading engineer and producer in the Brisbane area, working closely with the likes of King Stingray, Selfish Sons, and Osaka Punch. His relaxed and easygoing approach provides a calm atmosphere in any creative environment, allowing artists to create and explore comfortably, resulting in the best musical outcome.

  • Steve Kempnich

    ENGINEER | PRODUCER | MIXER

    Head Engineer at Airlock from 2019 to 2022, Steve Kempnich, is a musician, engineer and producer with a love for music production, the possibilities limited only by creativity. Steve believes in working together with the artist to achieve their vision, always striving to facilitate a free and open environment while producing new arrangements, sounds, expression and experimentation. He favours vintage flavours in equipment, processing and microphones, striving for a lush, powerful, emotive and effective outcomes.

    He has been a live performer with his own projects, Morning Harvey and Orphans Orphans, and toured as member of The Creases and Last Dinosaurs.

    Some of the projects Steve has worked on includes, Morning Harvey - Susanne Monday, Orphans Orphans - Lighten up your Day, Twin Haus - The Revue, Wolfmother - Kickass, Shag Rock, Up In The Airlock Series, Powderfinger’s, One Night Lonely and Megan Washington ABC’s The Sound.

    Steve “the snake” Kempnich who is moving on from being Head Engineer here at Airlock Studios. Steve now has a young and growing family, and has started a space of his own. Valley 4000 studios houses some fantastic mix and production rooms and many of Brisbane’s quality producers and engineers. Steve will still be bringing projects through Airlock due to our fantastic LIVE tracking rooms, and he will be available upon request for special projects if his schedule allows.

  • Emily Hopley

    ENGINEER | PRODUCER | MIXER

    Emily’s passion for engineering started at an early age, she started interning at a local Gold Coast studio when she was 15, which lit a fire in her to get into audio and the music industry.

    Over the years, Emily has worked in studios around Gold Coast & Brisbane, assisting fantastic engineerings such as Anna Laverty, Aria award winning Cody McWaters, Steve Kempnich, Yanto Browning and Virginia Read.

    In 2020 one of the songs Emily co-produced/engineered with artist MiCCY - ‘Figure it out’ was nominated for a Qld Music Award in the Soul/Funk/RnB Category. Emily has also worked on numerous projects at Airlock including Up In The Airlock (season 2), Boss Moxi, Suicide Country Hour, Mt.Nadir, Blussh, and her own project (Airlocks Studios Immersive Program) which was a 3-day audio engineering workshop for womxn with Anna Laverty as guest engineer/educator.

    She is eager to engineer/produce/mix niche genres like Neo-Soul, Jazz, Fusion, Hip Hop, RnB, heavy and Punk.

  • Daniel Shapland

    ENGINEER/PRODUCER/MIXER

    Born and raised in the UK, Daniel is a talented engineer, producer, mixer, now residing in Brisbane.

    He made his way up studying at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music under ARIA nominated producer Doug Roberts (John Farnham, INXS) and Matt Hitchcock (Katie Noonan, Karin Schaupp)

    His love of music drives a passion for absolute quality, and Daniel thrives working with all types of artists and genres.

    Early on, Daniel assisted on records for ARIA winner Katie Noonan, ARIA winner Karin Shcaupp, acclaimed classical guitarist Chrystian Dozza, learning advanced techniques and understanding the importance of the relationship between musicality and technical proficiency. Daniel has gone on to produce a variety of music, sound design for video games such as Roblox, and work alongside Keir Nuttall on the series Darby & Joan. His love for music shines through above all else, propelling the desire to make amazing music with passionate artists.

    In the studio Daniel is friendly, collaborative and dedicated to bringing the artist's vision to life.

  • Lokey Audio

    PRODUCERS | ENGINEERS | SONGWRITERS | MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST

    Bodi and Nathan are Brisbane/Sunshine Coast based producers, engineers, songwriters, and multi-instrumentalists. They have both played music since they were young children and have lived together and made music together, virtually non-stop, for the last decade. In that time, they have been an active part of the Australian music scene, as both recording artists and live performers. They have developed a deep synergy and an effective workflow together in the studio which has laid the groundwork for not only an extremely relaxed studio environment, but also an exciting one, with the pair treating every recording session as an opportunity to create something truly unique.

    Their primary musical focus over the years has been the well-established indie-rock outfit The Jensens, which they co-founded in 2013. They have co-written, recorded and released close to 40 tracks with the band, including two self-produced full-length albums. They were also the very first band to record a live performance for Airlock Studios well-received Up In The Airlock video series.

  • Yanto Browning

    ENGINEER/PRODUCER/MUSICIAN

    Yanto Browning is a Brisbane-based record producer, studio engineer, and musician. Artists and bands Yanto has worked with include Amy Shark, the Art of Sleeping, Asa Broomhall, the Belligerents, Big Scary, Dana Gehrman, Darren Middleton & Ian Haug (Powderfinger) Delta Goodrem, Ed Kuepper (the Saints), Elko Fields, Karise Eden, Halfway, Good Will Remedy, Jac Stone, Jamie Lawson, Jeremy Oxley (the Sunnyboys), the Jungle Giants, Karl S.Williams, Kate Miller-Heidke, Leanne Tennant, the Medics, Mosman Alder, Morning Harvey, Pete Murray, Sleep Club, Steve Kilbey (the Church), Thelma Plum, and Tara Simmons.

    Yanto has also worked as a composer and producer of music and sound for film, television, and theatre, and lectures in music at the Queensland University of Technology. As a musician Yanto has performed at festivals such as the Big Day Out and Splendour in the Grass, as well as touring nationally with singer/songwriter Jac Stone.

  • Konstantin Kersting

    ENGINEER/PRODUCER/MUSICIAN

    Across the range of different projects Konstantin Kersting has produced, engineered and mixed, there’s one constant—his philosophy of working together with the artist. To Kersting, the role of a producer is to help bring an artistic vision to life. It’s about building a relaxed environment, developing good relationships and facilitating creativity—to make the best record possible.

    Working as an in-house sound engineer at Airlock Studios, under the renowned producer Yanto Browning. Kersting picked up tips and tricks from nationally and internationally acclaimed producers Paul McKercher, David Schuler, Mirko Vogel, Paul Dempsey and Tom Iansek. Since the start of his career, Kersting has worked across a range of different genres for a range of different artists, including: The Jungle Giants, The Church, Mallrat, WAXX, The Belligerents, Tia Gostelow & Moses Gunn Collective.
